Can you describe your role within the company and what you see as your main responsibilities?

As the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Ubees, my primary responsibility is to select appropriate technologies in software development, hardware components, data sciences, and Cloud infrastructure. This enables us to innovate rapidly while ensuring scalability. Plus, our technical team plays a vital role in shaping the company's product strategy by understanding our customers and collaborators and finding solutions to their problems. Lastly, I oversee multiple projects and coordinate with developers to ensure timely delivery of technology in alignment with our roadmap.

How did you get involved with the company and what drew you to the industry?

When you see a CTO role opportunity in a company dealing with bees, it's hard to not be curious about it. The unique nature of the regenerative agriculture industry in which Ubees operates is not something I had previously encountered or explored. However, this unfamiliarity serves as a motivating factor, as it presents an exciting opportunity for me to delve into a disruptive and rapidly evolving domain.

The prospect of working with bees and being part of a company that prioritizes regenerative agriculture is captivating. It opens doors to understanding the critical role that bees play in ecological balance and the cultivation of sustainable ecosystems. As a technology enthusiast, the challenge of applying innovative solutions to support and enhance the practices within the regenerative agriculture sector is particularly enticing. It involves exploring the intersection of technology and nature, finding ways to leverage advancements in software development, hardware components or data sciences to drive efficiency, scalability, and ultimately, positive environmental outcomes.

What do you believe sets the company apart from competitors in the industry?

It is our deep-rooted belief in addressing the fundamental aspects of the food production value chain. We understand that in order to truly fix the value chain, it is crucial to prioritize three key elements: improving farmers' economic conditions, promoting sustainable practices, and actively engaging the end consumer.

While many competitors may focus solely on product development or market expansion, our unique approach encompasses a holistic perspective that not only benefits farmers but also promotes sustainability and empowers consumers.

As the CTO, I am committed to leveraging technology to support these initiatives. We will invest in innovative solutions linked to the bees that enhance the efficiency, traceability, and transparency of the food production value chain. Through digital platforms, data analytics, and intelligent systems, we can empower farmers, optimize resource utilization, and provide consumers with valuable insights into the origin and quality of their food.

How do you see technology evolving in the next few years to better support regenerative agriculture practices?

I foresee technology evolving in the next few years to better support regenerative agriculture practices. By expanding communication infrastructure in rural areas and creating tailored digital experiences, we can empower growers with the necessary tools and knowledge. Additionally, emerging technologies like IoT, remote sensing, data analytics, and robotics hold tremendous potential in optimizing resource management and driving sustainable farming practices. Through these advancements, technology will play a transformative role in shaping the future of regenerative agriculture and fostering a more resilient and sustainable food system.

How do you see data science and artificial intelligence playing a role in the future of our technology solutions?

I envision data science and artificial intelligence playing a crucial role in the future of our technology solutions. AI is fundamental for scaling up beekeeping operations, as it enables real-time monitoring of beehives, providing immediate alerts and recommendations when issues arise. This level of automation and proactive management significantly enhances efficiency and productivity.

Moreover, data analysis plays a pivotal role in our quest for understanding nature and improving regenerative agriculture practices. By analyzing vast amounts of data, we can gain valuable insights into the workings of ecosystems, identifying patterns and correlations that inform our decision-making processes. This knowledge empowers us to refine and optimize our regenerative agriculture methods, leading to more sustainable and impactful outcomes.
